How it works
Every lesson follows the same calm pattern, so your group always knows what comes next and you never have to plan.
Teach once
Open the grown-up page. It tells you what to say, what to watch for, and gives answers for all three levels.
Pick a level
Circle gives more support, triangle is on level, star is a stretch. Same text topic, same tool, same day.
Read, then answer
One page to read with today's tool at the top, then a page of roomy handwriting lines for the answers. About 20 to 25 minutes.

Questions
What are the passages about?
Short, true nonfiction kids want to read: octopuses, sloths, sea otters, honeybees, bats, penguins, desert animals and hot air balloons, plus monarch butterflies and snow leopards in the check.
How do I choose a level?
Start at triangle. If a page is easy and correct, move up to star. If it brings tears, step down to circle. The topic matches across levels, so the group still talks about the same text.
Do I need any other materials?
A pencil and a crayon. Any nonfiction book from home or the library makes a nice warm up, but nothing is required.
Can I print only one level?
Yes. Each lesson has one grown-up page, then a read page and an answer page for each level. The contents page lists the exact pages.
Is this part of the 3rd Grade ELA Small Group Curriculum?
It is a stand-alone skill pack. The curriculum touches text features and context clues in a few weeks; this pack teaches them in depth, one tool per lesson.
